John Farrar
A river-tested veteran, John Farrar has served as a licensed guide on the rivers of Washington State since 1981. Though he has angled from Alaska to Argentina, on waters salt and fresh, home is the Pacific Northwest. Here he fly fishes for sea-run steelhead and resident trout. "I never tire of wading rivers, being there is reward enough."
Coming from the Black Hills of South Dakota to study at the University of Washington, John soon discovered the Northwest's fishery and great rivers. He worked part-time in fly shops to support his need to fish and be near water. It wasn't long before patrons at the tackle counter asked John to be their guide.
He reads water and finds fish the better to share both with his clients. As a casting instructor equally proficient with the single and double-handed rod, he helps you place your hopper tight to the Yakima's bank, or fling your spey fly far and fine across the Skagit's flow. From tying a fly that fishes well to faultlessly oaring challenging rapids John qualifies as a professional fly fishing guide. "I'll get you there," he says,""see that you enjoy yourself, and promise your return."
